Elementary Book Fair

The Elementary library will be having a book fair Tuesday, May 15 from 5-7pm and 5/16, 5/17, 5/18 and 5/21 from 8am-3pm.

Walk to Cure Diabetes-Rescheduled to May 23rd

Each year, more than 13,000 children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the U.S. That's 35 children each day.  JDRF's (Juvenile Diabetes Research Research Foundation) mission is to find a cure for diabetes & it's complications through the support of research. MCS will hold a walk on May 23rd at 2:15pm at the elementary school. Online donations may be accepted until June 8th by clicking on the link below:

MCS Spelling Bee 2011

Music of the Knight video wins national Glee contest; MCS to receive $25,000 for
music programs

12/15/11 - The video submitted in October by the Music of the Knight, an a cappella student vocal group, has won First Prize and will be awarded $25,000 by the Glee Give a Note Foundation. MORE

Makenzie Terrell placed first in local Elks  contest; heads to regionals on January 7

12/13/11 - Grade 4 student Makenzie Terrell placed first in Saturday's Elks National Free Throw "Hoop Shoot" contest and will now move on the regional competition at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, in Watervliet. Click on photo to enlarge.

Three grade 4 students rise to the top in annual Spelling Bee

12/9/11 - These grade 4 students won today's Elementary Spelling Bee and will compete in the grades 4-8 Spelling Bee on Friday, December 16.
The elementary winners are:
1st place: Emma Birsen
2nd place: Benjamin Guevara-Chancey
3rd place: Michaela Crescimanno-Dominguez

Booster Club's 2011 Spirit Wear Sale

11/3/11 - The Booster Club is selling hats, sweatshirts and other items during the Spirit Wear Sale. Orders must be placed by Wednesday, Nov. 23; delivery will be the week of Dec. 19. MORE

Seventh annual pumpkin race a success

10/24/11 - Congratulations to all the participants in the seventh annual pumpkin race. The overall winner was fifth-grader Alex Juhl. The race is designed as a cross country run in which students complete one lap on the upper field following cones for boundaries. The length of the course is shortened for kindergarten.

First, second, and third place finishers are awarded in each grade level. The overall winner is determined by the fastest time of all grades. Pumpkins were generously donated by Stanton Farms and decorated by Elementary Art Club. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

10/12/11 - Members of the MCS a cappella group “Music of the Knight” have submitted a video in the GLEE "Give a Note" campaign to help fund music and arts programs in public schools. Help support the programs by voting for the video the group submitted. MORE

Board of Education adopts revised calendar for 2011-12

10/6/11 - The Board of Education has adopted a revised school year calendar that trims the Thanksgiving and February Winter recesses and cancels a March 23 staff development day to recoup five days lost because of the late start of the year due to flooding. Here is the revised calendar PDF

A few reminders as the school year begins...

9/20/11 - Parents are reminded that they need to complete the Pink Emergency Contact Forms, Transportation Request Forms and Free & Reduced Applications. Please remember that you must send a new note to school for any bus changes (drop offs or pick ups) EACH YEAR.

9/19/11 - A sense of normalcy returned today as students hopped off buses, walked to classes, listened to teachers and smiled - three weeks after Tropical Storm Irene flooded the basement of the High School/Middle School.
