The Middleburgh Central School District operates under transportation guidelines approved by the Board of Education. The revised guidelines were developed by a committee comprised of, administration, parents, staff and a Board of Education representative.
The guidelines were recently revised as a result of a Transportation Study in collaboration with updates from the New York State Education Department.
The school district will continue to provide transportation to and from a student’s legal residence (located outside of designated walk zones) and/or before/after school child care locations along regularly scheduled bus routes district-wide.
The guidelines allow for two (2) pick-ups and/or drop-offs:
ONE
at the student’s legal residence and/or
ONE
alternate location.
Any subsequent changes to the approved location(s) will only be considered for permanent changes for child care.
No drop-offs for parties, scouts, etc.
Students will not be transported to non-school activities
such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, bowling, birthday parties,
sleepovers, jobs, or religious activities. Designated “walking”
students may not ride an alternate bus for the above activities,
but will be eligible for an approved alternate location.
Bus notes will be required for all changes
to/from the student’s legal residence (transport to approved
alternate location, school sponsored event, parent transport).
Bus notes must be prepared and sent to school with the child
on the day the bus note needs to be implemented.
Bus notes sent in advance will not be honored.
The notes must include all information necessary for the bus
driver to safely drop a student off at the approved alternate
location, including physical
house address.
All bus notes must be turned in to the main office by 9 a.m.,
faxes and phone calls will no longer be accepted.
Additional bus notes are available in the main office.
In the event of an emergency dismissal, the school district will follow the parent/guardian’s instructions on the emergency closing sheet. Parent/guardians are responsible for keeping the information up-to-date.
The school district requires a parent/guardian, older sibling
or other responsible party (grade 4 or higher) to be at the bus
stop in the afternoon to receive students 3rd grade and under.
Due to safety concerns, no child 3rd grade and under will be
dropped off unless a responsible party is available. If there is
no responsible party at the bus stop the student will be taken
back to the elementary school where they will need to be picked
up by 4 o’clock.
Only when a student is being returned to the elementary school
will phone calls be made to the parent/guardian.
