January 5: Roll out Individual Education Data and Excel spreadsheets to instructional staff
January 18: Board of education meeting, public session, 6 p.m., Budget Committee Workshop #1, budget information, 2023/2024 rollover budget and assumptions
February
February 1-28: Budgets (i.e., Buildings, PPS, Technology, Athletics, B and G, Transportation) due/reviewed
February 1: Budget Committee Workshop #2, NO BOE MEETING, public session, 6 p.m., preliminary budget updates, review state aid estimates and tax levy limit
February 15: Board of education meeting, public session, 6 p.m., Budget Committee Workshop #3, preliminary budget updates and estimated revenues
February 28: Individual Educational Data and Excel spreadsheets submission and review
March
March 1: Preliminary Tax Levy Limit submitted to the New York State Office of the State Comptroller (Statutory Deadline is March 1, 2023, to submit the preliminary tax cap calculation)
March 15: Board of education meeting, public session, 6 p.m., Budget Committee Workshop #4, review of Buildings and Grounds/Transportation/General Support/Debt Service Budget, review 23/24 Preliminary Budget and Fund Balance projection
March 29: Budget Committee Workshop #5, NO BOE MEETING, public session, 6 p.m., review Instructional (Buildings, PPS, Technology, Athletics) and Employee Benefits budget, review 23/24 Preliminary Budget and discussion
March 30: Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Annual Budget Vote, 6 p.m., must advertise four times within seven weeks of the vote – first publication 45 days prior to vote, Notice #1 published (March 30 and 31)
April
April 1-30: Prepare absentee ballot applications, absentee ballot, related envelopes, and directions, obtain and use locked ballot box for absentee ballots, Property Tax Report Card submitted to local newspaper
April 5 (IF NEEDED): Budget Committee Workshop #6, NO BOE MEETING, public session, 6 p.m., review Final Tentative Budget and Estimated Revenues
April 6: Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Annual Budget Vote, 6 p.m., must advertise four times within seven weeks of the vote – first publication 45 days prior to vote Notice #2 published (April 6 and 7)
April 17: Deadline for filing board of education petitions and propositions for vote (Must be submitted to the District Clerk by 5 p.m.)
April 17- 24: Prepare Budget Workbook/Newsletter (Finalize by April 25, 2023)
April 18: Date of drawing by District Clerk for determination of order for listing board of education candidates on ballot, inform candidates of legal requirement for all candidates for election to BOE to file sworn statements of campaign contributions and distribute informational material. (First sworn statements to be filed w/District Clerk and Commissioner of Education 30 days prior to vote date)
April 19: Board of education meeting, public session, 6 p.m., BOCES Budget Vote, adopt Tentative 2023/2024 Budget for voter approval, appoint clerks and inspectors of elections for budget vote. (NOTE: The absolute latest date the tentative proposed budget/propositions can be approved by the BOE is April 24, 2023)
April 19: Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Annual Budget Vote, must advertise four times within seven weeks of the vote – first publication 45 days prior to vote Notice #3 published (April 19 and 20)
April 20: Submit the Property Tax Report Card (PTRC) to New York state. NOTE: The statutory deadline to submit the 2023-2024 PTRC to NYS is April 24, 2023
April 20: Distribute military ballots (no later than 25 days before vote)
April 25: Arrange for the pickup and return of voting machines with Board of Elections
April 26: Media release on proposed budget, required documents available in District Office and on district website: School District Report Card, Fiscal Accountability Statement, Property Tax Report Card, Administrative Salary Disclosure, and Tax Exemption Notice, Budget Notice, Transparency Report, Absentee Ballots available from the district clerk, Budget Workbook available on district website/offices
May
May 1-15: Prepare voting machine inserts and transmit to county board of elections, examine voting machines for ballot placement and sign statement at board of elections
May 3: Annual Budget Hearing/Board of Education meeting, public session, 6 p.m.
May 4: Annual budget hearing presentation posted to the district’s website, Budget Newsletter/Notice mailed to eligible voters after budget hearing
May 10: Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and annual budget vote, must advertise four times within seven weeks of the vote – first publication 45 days prior to vote Notice #4 published (May 11 and 12)
May 12: Second sworn statement of campaign contributions or loans by candidates for membership on the board of education to be filed with the district clerk and commissioner of education
May 12-15: Sworn statements of campaign contributions or loans in excess of $1,000, received before vote date and not previously reported, to be filed with the district clerk and commissioner of education within 24 hours of receipt by candidates for membership on the board of education
May 16: Annual Budget Vote/Proposition Vote/Board of Education Election 12- 9 p.m., Junior/Senior High School Gymnasium Lobby, absentee ballots must be submitted to the district clerk by 5 p.m. on May 16
June
June 20: Budget revote date (only if budget proposition fails)
