January 20-29 Elementary Students Moving to Remote Instruction

Dear MCS families,

Middleburgh Central School District was notified today, January 19 about a single positive case of COVID-19 at the elementary school. This has resulted in our decision to temporarily suspend in-person learning for students at the elementary school from Wednesday, January 20 through Friday, January 29.

While it is always our first priority to maintain in-person instruction, due to the inability to safely staff, students in UPK-3 and Head Start through grade 4 will be switching to a remote learning model.

MCS has devices to support distance learning. Parents and guardians can call the elementary office to set up a time to pick up a laptop and charger. You will need to fill out paperwork and logon at school before taking it home. This is the same device your child uses in the classroom and it must come back to school when students return to in-person instruction on Monday, February 1.

Our commitment to serving free meals during this time remains. Starting tomorrow morning, from 9:00 to 11:00, breakfast and lunch will be available for you to pick up at the elementary school loading dock, Monday through Friday. Picking up meals for multiple days will be allowed.

This pause for in-person learning does not include grades 5-12 at the Jr. Sr. High School and it does not interrupt transportation for those students, or students transported out of district.

I truly appreciate your support and ability to pivot as circumstances change during this pandemic. Let us know if you have any questions or how we can help.

Sincerely,

Brian Dunn
Superintendent of Schools
