The MCS Book Club for grades 3-6 has 35 members for the 2023-24 school year. Students meet twice a month to share books they love to read. So far this year, club members have
read and discussed storylines and illustrations from works by Jan Brett, Eric Carle, Tomi dePaola, and Leo Lionni, among others. Upcoming meetings will feature author studies using works by Barbara Cooney, Steven Kellogg, Rafael Lopez, Robert McCloskey, Yuyi Morales, Patricia Polacco and William Steig.
Through the club, students learn to compare and contrast themes, analyze text and illustrations, and connect with authors. Those connections will be enhanced when local community authors make visits to upcoming book club meetings, providing students with a new opportunity to understand and enjoy literature with the story creators themselves.
