Class of 2023 Celebrated at Graduation

The MCS 2023-23 school year has concluded with the Class of 2023 Commencement on June 23 at 7 p.m. 43 seniors received diplomas, many of them advanced Regents diplomas.

Several members of the Class of 2023 have also recently graduated from Career and Technical training through Capital Region BOCES. Many Class of 2023 students will attend college this fall, having already earned college credits at MCS during their junior and senior years.

This year’s Top 5 students are:

Valedictorian: Sienna Kelley
Salutatorian: Megan Bramer
Honor Graduate: Riley Cronin
4th Highest Average: Caroline Adams
5th Highest Average: Joeleen Dines

During the commencement ceremony, Kelley, Bramer and Cronin each addressed their fellow students and the audience of parents, guardians, friends and MCS faculty and staff.

Bramer told her classmates they are starting a new journey.

“You are here today, at the start of a moment on the edge of the world, where you learn to be independent, where you make mistakes, where you lose hope once or twice, but where you ultimately become who you truly are, do what you are meant to do, and where our lives become the stories that we weave.”

Cronin talked about how important it is to have teachers who push their students to be their best.

“If a teacher is being “hard” on you, it is only because they know your abilities and they know what working to the best of your ability looks like,” Cronin said. “You might think that they are pushing you because it is their job but it’s not true. The teachers at MCS are here because they want to do everything they can to not only teach you academically but also about life.”

Graduation is a time to celebrate what has been accomplished, but it also can be a time of uncertainty about the future. Kelley reframed that uncertainty as an opportunity for curiosity.

“As we stand here today with uncertainty I hope we all take this opportunity to all fuel our own curiosity,” she said. “The most meaningful times I’ve had here (at MCS) were when my peers, teachers, or family supported my curiosity and when I had the privilege to support theirs.”

She offered words of encouragement.

“Even if we don’t feel prepared for what is down ahead, we are prepared to figure it out.”

Class of 2023 students have received numerous awards and recognitions. Many of the awards were bestowed on students during the Honors Banquet  on June 1 . A list of all the awards is available here. Since that time, additional awards have been announced, including:
