Details on Today’s MCS Kickoff Tournament

MCS opened the soccer season today as we hosted our annual Kickoff Tournament.  The participants on the girls’ side were MCS, Duanesburgh, Schoharie and BKW.  Schoharie advanced to the championship game after a 1-1 tie after one overtime period. The team to advance was decided on penalty kicks and Schoharie prevailed. Middleburgh was bested by Duanesburg 5-3 in a high scoring contest. For MCS, Laney Heaney scored 2 goals and Brianna Devlin had 1.

soccer coach talking to team near benchOn the Boys side, an old Schoharie County League rivalry was re-lived as MCS, Schoharie, Cobleskill-Richmondville, and Cairo-Durham faced off. CRCS won over Schoharie 7-2 to advance to the championship game. MCS and C-D played an exciting 3-3 game, which resulted in a tie for both sides. C-D advanced to the Championship game after 1 round of penalty kicks. For the Knights, Austin Johns tallied 3 goals and Eric Pickering had 2 assists. Ben Croote had 15 saves in the goal for MCS.

MCS will play Schoharie on Saturday September 3 at noon and C-D and CRCS will play at noon as well.
