High-Risk Sports Halted Due to County Increase in COVID Cases

Senior night for the girls volleyball team has been postponed tonight due to an increase in the COVID-19 positivity rate in Schoharie County. The rates are reported daily and are tracked using a seven-day rolling average; today we are at 4.6%.

Back in February, the health department cleared the way for our Board of Education to approve a plan for the Middleburgh Central School District to participate in high-risk sports if the counties average is below 4%.

Right now, the only Fall 2 sport that is considered high-risk is JV and Varsity Volleyball. Soccer can continue with games and practices because it is not a high-risk sport.

On Sunday, April 25 the spring sports season starts with track, baseball, softball, and tennis. They are cleared to begin, because they are not considered a high-risk sport.

The increase in our positivity rate is a reminder that we must stay vigilant and follow COVID-19 safety protocols.
