Letter from Superintendent Mark Place Regarding Student Misconduct

Dear MCS Families and Staff:

I’m writing to share information about a situation that occurred earlier today, March 19, 2026, at the Jr./Sr. High School.

After a report of a marijuana odor in a boys’ restroom, our administrative team investigated and identified several students in possession of vape devices. In addition, one student was found with marijuana, and another was found with an unloaded air gun.

In keeping with our established protocols, we contacted the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Department. We are continuing to work in partnership with them as we follow up on this situation.

All students involved will be disciplined in accordance with our district’s Code of Conduct.

I want to thank our staff for responding quickly and appropriately to ensure the safety of our school community. Situations like this are never easy, but our shared commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our students remains strong.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Mark Place
MCS Superintendent
