John Bruno battled into the third round of the Section 2 Individual Tennis Tournament. In the first round he faced a player from Albany and won 8-3. In the second round he defeated a player from Shaker 11-10 after winning the tie break 8-6.
The third round of sectionals is a field of 16 kids, down from the 64 at the start of the tournament. In the third round John faced the 7th seeded player from Shen. He lost 11-9 after a grudgingly long tie break. This was the first time John advanced to the third round, impressive considering it’s not divided by small schools and large schools. John never played an opponent from a school smaller than an A. Middleburgh Central School District is a Class D school.
