Middleburgh Central School District welcomes Emma Bernhardt to the kindergarten team this school year.
Bernhardt grew up in nearby Schoharie and earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood and childhood education from SUNY Oneonta. She later completed a master’s degree in educational technology and learning design from SUNY Empire. She brings experience teaching a variety of grade levels in the region and is entering her fifth year as an educator.
Joining the Middleburgh community is a meaningful homecoming for Bernhardt, who has deep roots in the Schoharie Valley.
“The Schoharie Valley community has a special place in my heart, so being able to share my love for my community with my students is something I look forward to most,” she said.
As an educator, Bernhardt emphasizes the importance of character development alongside academic growth.
“I believe to be considered capable, responsible human beings, one needs a working understanding of both integrity and work ethic,” she said. “I define integrity as ‘doing the right thing, even when no one is watching’ and work ethic as ‘putting in your best effort, even when it’s hard.'”
Outside the classroom, Bernhardt enjoys reading. Her current favorite book is “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Middleburgh Central School District is pleased to welcome Bernhardt and looks forward to the ways she will help students build strong foundations.
