MCS Girls Learn To Trust Protective Instincts And Other Defense Moves

girls learn self defense in gymHigh School Spanish teacher Lisa Himme, a supporter of empowerment, set up a self-defense workshop for girls in grades 7-12. There were two sessions. The first was about thinking and listening or trusting our instincts and the latter was physical training.

Lecturer and professional trainer, Mark Mau, taught practical tips, demonstrated techniques and coached the students. “I was impressed by the training which focused on instinct, intellect as well as physical. Mr. Mau emphasized that our best tool is our brain,” said Mrs. Himme.

The students enjoyed the experience and learned valuable life-long lessons. One student who attended said, “I feel like an empowered woman who can walk the streets without fear”.
