Mission Accomplished for Knights Varsity Soccer

The Middleburgh boy’s varsity soccer team scored a 4-0 victory in their season finale against Waterford last night. The Knights competed in an eight game season at Afrim’s Sports Complex in Albany.

“We had 16 players on the team and everyone played minutes in every game. The teams in the league were from the A,B,C, and D levels,” said Coach Gregg Johns. “The competition was very strong and the team had a very respectable showing. We finished in fifth place in the standings based on win/loss points with a 3-4-1 overall record for the eight games. We finished second overall in goal differential with a +4 rating. The goal entering this league was very simple. We wanted to give these guys a chance to play together and get better in hopes that the WAC will resume play in March and in that regard, it was mission accomplished.”

This league was formed after many schools and leagues in Section 2 decided not to compete in a traditional fall season due to COVID-19. Coach Johns and team captains Andrew Johns, Ethan Adams, Devin Lacko, and Brendan Ryan talk about the inspiration behind their drive in this video.
